The new far-right populist party,  Forum for Democracy (FvD), led by Thierry Baudet, emerged as the big winners from the provincial elections on 22 March winning more seats than PM Rutte’s VVD party.  Their anti-immigrant policy proved effective just days after the fatal shootings in Utrecht. FvD have signed a declaration with the ECR to work together. They are projected to get as many as 3 seats.

The move has been criticised by the CU who claim FvD are pushing for the Netherlands to leave the EU and have are too pro-Russian. Peter van Dalen from CristenUnie (CU) will stand again and is very likely to be re-elected.

Bas Belder from Staatkundig Gereformeerde Partij will stand down.
